WHO ARE CARERS?

Carers  -  A carer is someone who looks after a friend or relative who is frail due to old age, ill or has a disability.   Carers are often very isolated, tied to their homes and out of touch with friends and family.   When breaks from caring are arranged, the carer may not have the confidence to go out by themselves, or maybe does not know where to go.

Sometimes a carer would just appreciate a friendly face visiting on a regular basis and spending time with them and the person for whom they care.

Young Carers

A young carer is a young person under the age of 18 who cares for someone in their family (parent, sibling, grandparent).  Their responsibilities may include performing physical tasks, shopping, cooking, personal care and providing emotional support.

Young carers often find it difficult to have a break from their caring responsibilities, to mix with other young people and to participate in social activities.
